Nicole Zylstra is a professional performer/writer/improviser/director living and working in Calgary for the past ten odd years. As a writer she has been commissioned by the likes of Lunchbox Theatre (the Betty Mitchell Best New Play Nominated Monkey Business) and Vertigo Theatre (Innocent Blood), and Edmonton's Unconscious Collective (Congo Song), not to mention Fringe Hits "Camille on Wheels" and "Oh,Jesus! - a love story." Her first solo show, "FIREBIRD: 220 Horses of the Apocalypse" toured successfully across Canada as part of the Fringe Festival circuit, making stops at Montreal, Thunder Bay, Edmonton and Vancouver, and also appeared for 2 nights at Toronto's famed Second City. Her next solo, EFFable, rocked Calgary's Solocentric Festival and was Pick of the Fringe at Edmonton's Fringe A-Go-Go (2005). She is currently playwright-in-residence at Edmonton's Northern Light Theatre, and was one of the commissioned playwrights in Northern Light's recent 2005 edition of Urban Tales: Possession.

Bath, The

Synopsis:
Nicole's first play is a one-act comedy that won awards for Nicole in directing and writing at the Sears' Ontario Drama Festival in 1986. A comic fantasy set entirely in a bathtub, the play was published in an anthology, Concrete Daisy and Other Plays, and performed in countless high schools across North America

Congo Song

Synopsis:
Commissioned and produced by Edmonton's Unconscious Collective, this musical (with original score composed by Bruce Horak and Paul Morgan Donald) was inspired by Stuart Cloete's novel of the same name, and features a Scientist, a Nazi, a Diplomat, a Gorilla, a Snake, and a Woman. the action is set in Deepest Darkest Congo in the days leading up to World War II

Innocent Blood / Blood Sympathy

Synopsis:
the first draft of this adaptation of Sheridan LeFanu's gothic vampire novella, Carmilla, won second prize in ATP's Pan-Canadian PlayRites Festival 24 Hour Playwriting Competition. Vertigo Mystery theatre (formerly Pleiades) commissioned the full length version, which had its world premiere in May of 2004. A newly edited script was produced under the title Blood Sympathy by Panties Productions in Edmonton as part of the InterFear Festival in October of 2004
