Werner Trieschmann. Werner Trieschmann's numerous plays -- including Dog Star, Wrought Iron, and Killers -- have been staged by Moving Arts in Los Angeles, Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York City, The New Theatre in Boston, Mobtown Players in Baltimore, and Red Octopus Productions in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr. Trieschmann was a resident at the Mount Sequoyah New Play Retreat in Fayetteville, Arkansas. His play Lawn Dart won first prize in the Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans New Play Competition. He was the first playwright to receive the Porter Prize, an Arkansas literary award recognizing outstanding achievement by an Arkansas writer. His full-length comedy You Have to Serve Somebody is published by the Dramatic Publishing Company; several of his short plays are published by Playscripts, Inc.; his dark one-act comedy Killers is published through Original Works Publishing; and a monologue from Killers is included in theThe Best Women's Stage Monologues 1999, published by Smith & Kraus. Mr. Trieschmann has an MFA in Playwriting from Boston University. He currently lives in Little Rock, where he is a columnist and editor for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and chases around his young son, John, to keep him from terrorizing the dog with his plastic golf clubs.

Absolute Most Cliched Elevator Play in the History of the Entire Universe, The

When a crowded elevator becomes stuck, one of the passengers, a playwriting instructor, thinks that everybody is in fact trapped in a cliched play by an inexperienced playwright. After all, the elevatordoes contain a quick-tempered Biker, a spaced-out New Age Woman, and an agitated Pregnant Woman. But when the Instructor goes searching for the playwright, the elevator expands to include even more stereotypes including over-eager cheerleaders, a Goth Kid who writes bad poetry and, of course, a clown. Will the Instructor find the playwright before the cliches become out of control?

Nothing Says I Love You Like Bad Poetry

Synopsis:
Boy loves Girl. Boy tells Girl he loves her. Girl says yuck. Repeatedly. Girl will only be satisfied with a poem from Boy. If only Boy knew the first thing about writing a poem. With a little help from a football player who believes his tackles are a form of poetry, and a frightening but friendly Three-Headed Goth Creature, Boy ends up at the local poetry slam. Will Boy actually write a poem and prove his love for Girl or will he face another heart-crushing rejection? A comedy that proves why candy and flowers can't compete with bad poetry.

Paper or Plastic?

Synopsis:
For her first job, teenage Sarah thinks she's easily qualified to check out customers at Puritan Foods, her local grocery store. At least it has to be better than serving up greasy fast food, right? But Sarah isn't prepared for Carl, the assistant manager, who refuses to deal with unruly customers because he's too busy putting up Christmas displays in August. And she isn't ready to deal with the customer who can't put down her cell phone long enough to acknowledge that Sarah is there. Or the two dudes who use their time in the checkout line to launch into an existential argument about the environment. And what about the mysterious cowboy or, even worse, Angus, the person who Carl warns Sarah about the day she's hired. Then there are her crazy co-workers who put on camouflage to hunt down stray grocery carts or live in closets and subsist on Twizzlers to avoid Carl. All Sarah wants is the answer to the simplest question in the world: Paper or Plastic? High-school performers will love this zany comedy as it is great both for public performance and as competition material. Single set. Approximate running time: 40 minutes.
