Christmas Carol, A

Synopsis:
This was a show we did to raise funds for the St. Stephens Church fund in Exeter. We adapted the Dickens' timeless tale and brought our own touch to it. Lit solely by candles and singing classic carols during the piece we re-imagined the story, making it fast-paced whilst using our old favourite medias of puppetry and self-lit actors.

Ice Maiden, The

Synopsis:
She, the murderess, the destroyer, is half a child of air and half the powerful ruler of the streams SourDough Theatre present Hans Christian Andersen's The Ice Maiden, the dark tale of a young man called Rudy, whose life is beset by an evil being - the queen of the glaciers, a force of icy rage from the natural world, the titular Ice Maiden. After escaping her when he was young he must now do everything in his power to resist the lure of the Ice Maiden and escape her frosty grasps. Working from Andersen's original text, SourDough have devised their own version, merging the old story with their new interpretation. Here they unveil their production of this morbid fairy-tale, exploring a world that is both enticing and dangerous. The story is illustrated with many of the company's favourite devices; shadows, projection, puppetry and live music.

Red Oleanders

Synopsis:
Set in a mythological world reminiscent of India's greatest epic poems, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, the play shows the effect of systematic mechanisation of human resources as a means of serving a corrupt tyranny. At its heart is the character of Nandini, a beautiful young girl who inspires a revolution against the cruel regime. She acts as a catalyst for change in a society resigned to its bleak fate working in the goldmines of a great King who is himself imprisoned behind an iron curtain of his own making. Her symbol is a simple red flower from which she draws great resolve and eventually brings a kingdom to its knees.
