Kate Moira Ryan started her career in 1985 as a winner of the Young Playwrights Festival. Her play 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother, written with and for comedienne Judy Gold, was produced at Ars Nova in New York City, the Montreal Comedy Festival, and the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach to rave reviews. It will re-open Off-Broadway in the fall of 2006.OTMA was produced by the Atlantic Theatre Company, the Ekaterinburg Youth Theatre in Russia, and the Lake George Theatre Project, and will be seen again at the Powerhouse Theatre at Vassar College in the Fall of 2006. It is published by Playscripts, Inc. Her adaptation of Dorothy Allison's novel Cavedweller premiered at New York Theatre Workshop and is published by Dramatists Play Service. She is an alumna of New Dramatists and has received residencies at Yaddo, MacDowell, and the Edward Albee Foundations. She was recently awarded a fellowship from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation by the Ensemble Studio Theatre as well as an Arnold Weinberger Fellowship to the University of Cincinnati, and two fellowships to New Play Festival in Russia from the Center for International Theatre Development. She was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and received the Joe Calloway Award from New Dramatists.
