Gabriela Preissova, nee Gabriela Sekerova, sometimes used pen name Matylda Dumontova (March 23, 1862 in Kutna Hora - March 27, 1946 in Prague), was a Czech writer and playwright. Her play Její pastorkyna was the basis for the opera Jenufa by Leos Janácek. His earlier opera The Beginning of a Romance was also based on one of her stories.

Synopsis:

The premiere of Gabriela Preissovas Czech masterpiece, later forming the basis for J.B. Foersters famous opera, Eva, in its first ever English translation. Written in 1890, this epic drama charts impoverished seamstress Evas downfall. Evas expectations are put to the test as the limitations of love become clear. The claustrophobic class hierarchies, prejudices and gossip of a small village are dissected in this moving tale of sacrifice, loss and hope. This is a script-in-hand performance by the Invertigo Take-over ensemble.
