Richard Patterson was born and raised in Drexel Hill, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia, in the late eighties. He moved to New York in 2005 to pursue a degree in dramatic literature and creative writing at New York University. Since graduating, he's taken numerous courses and workshops at Primary Stages/ESPA with Michelle Bossy, Itamar Moses, Edwin Sanchez, Tanya Barfield, Cusi Cram, and Leslye Headland. The Trash Menagerie is his first and only production thus far in New York City, but other plays include Gayby, a tragicomedy about a gay man who immaculately conceive's God's child, and Blackfriars, a London-set chamber piece. By day, Richard has worked at Samuel French and, currently, at Music Theatre International, where he licenses musicals to schools and amateur groups. He is also the New York Editor of Exeunt, a UK-based online theatre magazine that The Guardian in London called "one of the best online portals for theatre because it takes the subject seriously."
