Dr. Martin Luther Patrick: Dramatist and Writer. Martin has written five stage plays that have been produced in London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Harlem NYC, New York. His first Play was Secrets about a Jamaican teenager's dream to become a dancer and find the girl of his dreams. It debuted in Frankfurt where Martin began his University teaching career. His second play, Where To Now was selected by 'Gay Sweatshop' in 1987 for a staged reading was produced the following year. It is the first play in the UK concerning Black gays and their family life by a Black British writer. His third play Jamboree in 1988 was a musical for an Outreach multiracial young group. In 1989 his forth play, Give It Up Mum, a three character Black feminist drama was selected as one of the five finalists for the Independent Newspaper's Second Play Award. His fifth play, Romance and Treason, a four character Black psychological drama about a father's infidelity with his son's wife unites an estranged mother and son in revenge against husband and wife. As a Performance Artist he has read and dance performed his Vignettes and for Black Arts Outreach Community shows. His debut was at The Stop Clause against Gays and Lesbians protest rally in London 1987. Then the 'Black Gays United Forum' at the London Gay Centre in 1988; at the 'Free Nelson Mandela Concert' at Centreprise, London 1989, and Hunter College NYC as overseas Black Performance Artist. From 1990-1994 he read and performed his Vignettes at all major Black Outreach Communities centres in London on Black Identity & Sexual Politics in relation to antiracist initiatives. His 1992 performance on the BBC television programme One Hundred per cent as an Out Black Gay dramatist, writer and Performance Artist brought him further public attention because he was one of the first Black men in the UK Art scene to do so. Martin's work lead to his performance at London's prestigious ICA Institute of Contemporary Arts in June '94, and the 1994 Dutch Euro-pride organisation selected him as the UK Black delegate for their Multi-Media Arts Festival. In 2007, the founding Brothers of the Black British Gay initiative reunited in an open forum at the South Bank University for In this our lives: The Reunion exploring the changes that have taken place in London and across the country for Black lesbians and gays from 1987-2007 Martin was on of the panel of members. In February 2008 his work as a Black gay artist was included in the exhibition OUTSIDE EDGE on Black British LGBT history at the Museum of Docklands in London, UK. Martin has frequently travelled between the UK and USA for over thirty years and states "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr has been a light of hope and inspiration for me since 1968." After years of academic research study, his novel Isolation about a tough Black covert op agent, who falls for the wrong guy, is being considered for publication.
