Barassi

Barassi
Barassi is the story of a champion Australian Rules footballer and coach, Ron Barassi. Barassi's premiership footballer Father wore number 31 in the 1940 VFL Grand Final and was later killed as a soldier in Tobruk. He left a small boy who dreamed of one day being just like his father. That same boy was developed into a champion by a loving, but no-nonsense mother and a formidable foster father, Norm Smith. This is the story of the boy who becomes the legend, and who shapes the mighty game we know as Australian Rules Footballour indigenous game, the game that demands courage, skill, determination, innovation, selflessness, and the bit of 31 that is in us all.

Melburnalia

Synopsis:
. . . [F]eaturing the CBD, Kew, St Kilda, Ringwood and Footscray. Melburnalia weaves together five specially commissioned new plays by outstanding local writers Kate Holden, Lally Katz, Ross Mueller, Tee O'Neill and Alice Pung. these short works form a single theatrical journey which transits from suburb to suburb and uncovers a city with many faces. Each play illuminates the extraordinary within the ordinary: paraphernalia and miscellanea yield up their stories. From the grungy backalleys of St Kilda to the boulevards of Kew; first love in Footscray and betrayal in Ringwood; from the wide lanes of the Maroondah Highway to the narrow arcades of Degraves St; from heroin to homosexuality; library to laneway; sex work to stage work; bohemians to bogans to boat people to an Apocalypse Bear. Melburnalia is a thought- provoking exploration of the diverse localities, peoples and meanings that come together to form 'Melbourne'.' Stalking Matilda

Synopsis:
A first world citizen disappears into the ocean. What was her involvement in a murder and arson attack. Was she victim or aggressor? the object of prejudice or its cunning practitioner? A group gathers to re-enact the recent history of the disappeared Matilda Lynch. As they attempt to understand her will they destroy her or could they destroy themselves? Employing a range of theatrical techniques, including a chorus of narrators, shifts in Dramatic style and genre, and movements backwards and forwards in time and space, this award winning play sets up a 'whodunit' around the death of an 'alien' that rapidly turns into a 'whydunit', with the finger of suspicion pointing at the protagonist herself.

Wall Project, The

Synopsis:
A collaborative writing project looking at the idea of a wall and its metaphors. 'Ellis uses the Middle East as a setting, in a scene where a boy has a bomb strapped to his body, in what Bendall says is a snapshot of community reaction to a wall appearing in the middle of a zoo. Wright deals with convicts being transported to Botany Bay while O'Neill examines the global sex trade in a thriller setting, with questions about the divide between the first and third worlds. . ..Her script examines the plight of an East European sex slave, inspired by a story she heard while a Drama student in London 20 years ago.'
