Tim Miller is an internationally acclaimed performance artist. Miller's creative work as a performer and writer explores the artistic, spiritual and political topography of his identity as a gay man. Hailed for his humor and passion, Miller has tackled this challenge in such pieces as POSTWAR (1982), COST OF LIVING (1983), DEMOCRACY IN America (1984), BUDDY SYSTEMS (1985), SOME GOLDEN STATES (1987), STRETCH MARKS (1989), SEX/LOVE/STORIES (1991), MY QUEER BODY (1992), NAKED BREATH (1994), FRUIT COCKTAIL (1996), SHIRTS & SKIN (1997) GLORY BOX (1999), US (2003) and 1001 BEDS (2006). Since 1999, Miller has focused his creative and political work on marriage equality and addressing the injustices facing lesbian and gay couples in America. Says Miller, "I want the pieces to conjure for the audience a site for the placing of memories, hopes, and dreams of gay people's extraordinary potential for love." After a nine-year stint in New York City, in 1987 Miller returned home to Los Angeles, California where he was born and raised. He currently lives there with his partner Alistair in Venice Beach.

1001 Beds
Based on his brand-new book by the same name, 1001 Beds is Miller's latest between-the-sheets performance-and this time he's tucked in on stage. From there, he takes audiences on a raucous, rowdy, kinky and funny journey though many of the many beds he's been in (and will be)-from a sleazy hotel across the street from the Hollywood Bowl to a surprisingly comfortable mattress in a police holding cell.

Tim Miller defines himself from the beginning as the gay little sperm that could. With fierce wit and candor, Miller eloquently drives through narratives with more stamina than an honor roll student on Adderall. LAY OF the LAND is Tim Miller's saucy, sharp-knifed look at the State of the Queer Union during a time of trial! Careening from his sexy misadventures performing in 45 States, to Marriage Equality street protests, to the electoral assaults on queer people all over the country, to his life as a grade-school flag monitor, to choking on cheap meat caught in his 10 year old gay boy's throat, LAY OF the LAND friskily gets at that feeling of gay folks being perpetually on trial, on the ballot, and on the menu! LAY OF the LAND is a "lay" in all kinds of ways: a sex-assignation, a queer citizenship map, and of course a narrative ballad with a recurrent refrain! (Miller's favorite way-down-the-list definition for "lay"!). Described by playwright Tony Kushner as "that song of the self which interrogates, with explosive, exploding, subversive joy and freedom, the constitution and borderlines of selfhood, " LAND attempts to follow an incongruous map of human rights as laid out for the LGBTQ community by an intolerant American government and society where Miller refuses to settle for expatriate.
