1857 - just before the American Civil War masquerading as a travelling theatre group three absolutists help runaway slaves get to the North. they are hiding Susannah when slave hunter Ben arrives. they tell him Susannah is not a slave but an actress and that she will appear as Scheherazade in that night's performance
