Paullette MacDougal is co-founder and artistic Director of Paradox Players, Austin, TX. She graduated from University of Wisconsin - Madison (with honors), and holds a M.F.a Columbia University. Formerly, she taught at Drew University, Madison, NJ (cinema studies), and at Metropolitan College, Minneapolis, MN (voice). Her work as a film director and writer (before becoming a playwright), garnered national awards and was viewed internationally. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild, American association of Community Theaters, Colorado Community Theatre Coalition, and Austin Script Works. She and her husband live in Austin, TX and Edwards, CO.

L.I.N.T.

Synopsis:
With the aid of a ghost, a Gypsy housekeeper mistakenly captures a homeless man in her laundry room, thinking he is a burglar. their subsequent romance brings harmony to a formerly dysfunctional family household.

Shards Of Love

Synopsis:
eight couples, eight stories, eight less-than-perfect love relationships. From a couple in their 20s to one in their 90s, this play explores love in farcical, funky, wistful, sweet, and murderous variations. the first vignette is a kidnapped groom. In the second, a couple in their 30s struggle with her vegetarianism and his deer hunting. the 4th is about menopause. Thus it proceeds until the 8th vignette when a couple in their 90s find a loving tenderness in their new (or maybe unremembered) relationship.

Sisters Under the Skin

Synopsis:
Sisters under the Skin, a three-part Drama about slavery and the American Civil War. Three women, Elizabeth Van Lew, a slave-holding abolitionist, her slave Mary (who was a spy in the home of the President of the Confederacy), and the First Lady herself, divulge their complicated relationships and inadvertently, their influence on the history of our country. at a time when women were not allowed to speak in public, each is addressing a public group, revealing courageous acts, divergent beliefs about the morality of slavery, and her own role in the heartache with which that war was won and lost. Based upon actual people and historical events in the 1860s. an uplifting, and at times, chilling story about abolitionists, passionate patriots, and extreme loyalty, as the South struggles with the ethics of slavery. a full-length play comprised of three inter-related monologues, which together tell one compelling story.

the first Act, entitled, "Crazy Bett," was presented At Frontera Fest 2011, Austin, TX, And Awarded "Best of the Fest." the "Crazy Bett" script was A finalist in estrogenius 2011, NYC. Sisters under the Skin (full-length verion) is Available for premiere.

Solo Flight

Synopsis:
Solo Flight, a solo play about a female stratosphere balloonist who wanted to be ordained an episcopal priest. Based on the life and writings of the Reverend Jeanneatte Piccard. She and 11 other female deacons broke through the "stained glass ceiling" to open the door for female s to become priests in this denomination.

Notes:
Premiered At Holy Cross College, followed by hundreds of performances in various national And international Venues. In 2002 Solo Flight was A winner in the Festival of One, An international competition, resulting in productions in Adelaide, Australia.

Two Husbands In Heaven

Synopsis:
Two elders cannot admit they love each other until Melvin, a ghost, Joanie, a tough, motor-cycling runaway, and her boyfriend, Moose, intervene. This lively, intergenerational play takes place in a small town during the 1969 apollo 11 moon landing. It celebrates love at any age and suggests that being honest with oneself and others leads to a happy ending. Single-unite set.

Ultimate Fight, The

Synopsis:
a rebellious teenager challenges his single mother to a round of extreme Fighting, as seen on TV. the mother proves to be tougher than the son expects. their "match" is coached and refereed by two world champions who "appear" out of the TV, shouting encouragement and move suggestions. Both mother and son find their hidden affection wins out.

Waltzing the Reaper

Synopsis:
a moving and humorous look at the patient and caregiver journey through the dying process and a last opportunity to mend a broken family relationship. a dying woman, wanting to finish her life at home, escapes the hospital with the help of the daughter-in-law she never got along with. the daughter-in-law proves to be courageous and compassionate and the relationship is healed.

Notes:
the two-actor full-length version was A finalist in Stage 3 theatre's Festival of New Plays, Sonora, Ca, 2002. Also A finalist in American theatre Co-op, And the Writers' Digest Competition (7th Place out of 18,000 entries.) It was produced At Back Stage theatre in Breckinridge, CO, in 2006. Actress Judith Gantly toured the solo version in scores of performances from New York to Alaska.
