Death In Venice

Synopsis:
Havergal appears first as a stiff and palid German funeral orator, describing the life and achivements of the dead hero, the elderly writer and critic von ashenach; then suddenly we are plunged into von aschenbach's own story, his sudden decision to travel to Venice, his gathering infatuation with a beautiful young Poilsh boy staying at the same hotel on the Lido, and the growing madness and sickness - both moral and physical - that overtake his mind as cholera begins to stalk the city.

In Quest Of Conscience

In Quest Of Conscience
SS-Obersturmfuhrer Franz Stangl was the Superintendent of the Nazis T-4 euthanasia Programme overseeing the extermination of mentally and physically disabled people, and subsequently Commandant of both Sobibor and Treblinka extermination camps. Tracked down long after the war by Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal in Brazil, he was extradited to West Germany and tried for the deaths of approximately 900,000 people. During his imprisonment, he was interviewed by author Gitta Sereny, well known for her studies of Mary Bell and albert Speer. Based on her subsequent book, In Quest Of Conscience is a startling Dramatization of those interviews. the play explores Stangl the child, the husband, the Father and leader, attempting to understand how the young boy who started life wanting to be a fabric weaver in his hometown in austria became responsible for the most efficient death camp of the Holocaust. In Quest Of Conscience is a devastating journey into the dark heart of evil as the interview process gradually brings Stangl face to face with the consequences of his actions. . .

Into That Darkness

Synopsis:
SS-Obersturmfuhrer Franz Stangl oversaw the deaths of nearly 1 million people in Nazi extermination camps. Following his conviction for the murders in 1970, historian, biographer and journalist Gitta Sereny interviewed Stangl to understand how an individual rationalises their actions in the face of a crime of such magnitude. This is the dramatisation of those chilling and harrowing interviews. Shocking and disturbing yet vital, Into That Darkness looks into the very heart of evil and asks how, 70 years after the end of the Second World War, we can prevent atrocities of this scale from happening again.
