Gimmick, The (A Comedy Of Lies)

Synopsis:
a clever young copywriter who hates the "lies" of advertising, prevails on his wife to support them while he writes an "honest" play. Money runs out, wife gets fed up. Inspiration! He places ad in newspaper that states simply: "SEND ME a DOLLaR." Seventy-five thoUSAnd people do. Wife accuses him of deceiving all those who have responded. He rationalizes ad as honest because he promised nothing. Finally he is relieved of money by a philosophical gunman pretending to be a U.S. Revenue agent, and recognizes his own self-deception through the slick robber's rationalization of his profession: i.e., important social func-tion of the thief - without them economy would collapse - people would no longer put money in banks, etc.

Man Around The House, A

Synopsis:
attractive widow tries to give young teen-age son moral direction in spite of her own anxieties, confusion and hunger for love. She gives boy conventional answers to his questions about sex, like, "Wait until you get married to a nice girl." She has an affair with an affable policeman who takes an interest in the boy. She accepts him as a representative of authority and moral right. Boy discovers them in bed and accuses his mother of hypocrisy in ad-vice to him. She eventually sees fallibility of policeman (who is married), and realizes one must never abdicate one's conscience to another person. She must work out her own answers.

Only More So

Synopsis:
a wildly comic satire on our preoccupation with material things. It turns our values upside down in order to get a better look at them. The story dramatizes the life of the world's greatest advertising man as he dictates his autobiography. The highlight of his career is the launching of the enormously popular TV game show, Nationalist Chinese Roulette, where a con-testant loads a revolver with both bullets and blanks, points it at his head and pulls the trigger. The fewer blanks in the gun the greater the prize. Losers are given a decent burial so the viewers won't have that let-down feeling. There is corruption and game fixing which recalls the great TV quiz scandals of the fifties.
