Aja Lyne Houston is an actress and playwright that was born in Las Vegas, Nevada but throughout my childhood lived a pretty nomadic life across the country. Aja received her Bachelor of Theatre Arts from Pitzer College, Tony Award-winning playwright George C. Wolfe's alma mater. Like Mr. Wolfe she strives to create theatre that challenges the stereotypes of the Black Diaspora that's depicted in theatre and the arts. She met her husband while studying abroad at the London Dramatic Academy. After graduating from college and getting married on the same day she moved to London where she worked as an actress. However those years illuminated the lack of complex, quirky, strong, fully realized black female roles there are in theatre. Always having a passion for writing she decided to take up the proverbial pen and create those characters herself. When I moved to New York I was immediately inspired to write "Superwomen?"It has been developed at Primary Stages, the Flux Theatre Ensemble, and at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Her short plays "Labyrinth of Enduring Freedom" and "Salvation" were apart of Flux Theatre Ensemble's Foreplay Reading Series. "Salvation" has been published by Indie Theatre Now! Aja is currently working on a new play "Acirfa Unchained" that's being developed at Primary Stages and Classical Theatre of Harlem. It will be apart of Primary Stages ESPA Playwriting Festival.

Research:    Member of the Dramatists Guild of America (as at 2015)

Salvation

Synopsis:
ForePlay is Flux Theatre Ensemble's annual exploratory staged reading series where playwrights riff on the themes of Flux's main production. Human 2.0 riffed on August Schulenburg's play about the next step in human evolution, DEINDE. Over three nights, Flux presented short plays by 14 playwrights imagining what various human senses will look like in the future. What if we had the capacity to smell like a dog? Use radar like a bat? See all the colors of the electromagnetic spectrum? How will we upgrade our sense of beauty and justice? What will happen when we truly have unlimited memory? All of these short plays explore what it means to be human in an era of rapid technological change.
