Fraser Grace began writing for the stage whilst working for Back-to-Back Theatre, a Birmingham based touring company for which he also acted and directed. 'Perpetua' was joint winner of the 1996 Verity Bargate award. It was premiered at the Door, Birmingham Repertory Theatre in April 1999 in association with Soho Theatre Company.

Robert Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe, is in crisi, and andrew PEric must discover the root of his anxiety. But can Mugabe be treated like any other patient? Witty and provocative, Fraser Grace's new play imagines the combative relationship between the black president and his white psychiatrist. In a series of bruising encounters, Breakfast with Mugabe explores the conflict between despotism and liberalism in modern Zimbabwe.

Fix and Twist

Synopsis:
Where and when is my play set? How fast will the drama unfold? Will it start now and end in the future, or does it happen at two times in one place simultaneously? Fraser's play Perpetua was a winner of the Verity Bargate Award and was produced by Birmingham Rep in May 1999. Currently teaching playwriting at University of Birmingham he takes time in his workshop to help participants discover new source material and to learn from contemporary writers how to fix and twist in time and space. This will involve both practical exercises and analysis of extracts from several plays observing 'rules' and effects derived from breaking them.

This is a provocative new play about Mikhail Kalashnikov - the Russian inventor of the aK47 assault rifle, and a decorated Soviet hero. Set in Kalashnikov's dacha amidst the dark woods and waters of a fairy tale Russian landscape, a young journalist, Volkov, comes to interview the elderly Kalashnikov about his time on the front line and his subsequent invention of the aK-47 assault rifle. With the help of his daughter and grand-daughter, Kalashnikov initially welcomes Volkov into his home but as the questions harden and ambiguities appear in Kalashnikov's recollections, some painful and extremely uncomfortable truths begin to emerge. . .

Perpetua
are some lives worth more than others? the town of Pensacola, Florida, is about to be set alight by the fiercest of battles: a struggle that pits the law of God against the law of the land, and the right to life against the right to choose.
