Bess - the Commoner Queen

Synopsis:
A unique insight into the political intrigues of Elizabethan England, as witnessed first-hand by "Bess of Hardwick". Bess was the closest female friend and Lady-in-Waiting to Elizabeth I and, at the same time, confidante to Mary Queen Of Scots, whom Bess and her 4th husband (the Earl of Shrewsbury) kept under house-arrest for over 15 years until Mary's execution. "Who'd 'ave thought this Derbyshire lass would one day be tab-hanging between two great queens?" Born a farmer's daughter, Bess rose to become the richest woman in Elizabethan England. She created the Cavendish dynasty and became a maker of queens. Her grand-daughter, Arbella Stuart, was second-in-line to James I and groomed by Bess to become queen. Bess counts amongst her descendants our current Queen Elizabeth II and her heirs to the throne via Lady Diana Spencer. This is a female story of survival and astonishing business success in the brutal world of Elizabethan politics.

Obama the Mamba - President Of the Slums

Obama the Mamba - President Of the Slums
US President's half-brother. Born of the same Kenyan Father - their lives worlds apart. . .the Mamba, means Crocodile in Swahili. It is George's gang name - he was always the first to snap. Barack Hussein Obama Snr was the Father the two boys never really knew. Whilst one brother made it to the pinnacle of First World power, the other became self-styled Third World President of Africa's most lawless slum - Huruma. a true life universal story of fate, power and destiny. enter Obama the Mamba's secret world - his charm will captivate you. the global nature of this work and the relationship between rich and poor nations makes the play potent as a production touring during 2012. It coincides with the US elections and the focus on Barack Obama will be very high. Inevitably, his history and upbringing will again come under scrutiny and the questions of whether a Black Man' should be President of the United States will inevitably return. This will resonate very powerfully on our play and raises some fundamental questions about who we are, what we look like and where we come from.

Ruck, The

Synopsis:
All the way from Yorkshire, the original "County of Origin" of Rugby League, comes a new force to be reckoned with in the sport: the mighty Batley Girls Under 16 team. This group of girls from a small Yorkshire mill town have grown up together and are ready for tough challenges on and off the pitch, but are they ready for what's in store on the other side of the world? "Kevin's script is fantastic. The Ruck is a truly original piece of theatre. It's great to know there are such wonderful plays out there celebrating women in sport. Beautifully written with characters whose antics are as colourful off the pitch as on. It's real, honest and funny. These are the kind of women I'd want to spend a night at the theatre with." (Maxine Peake).

White Trash

Synopsis:
the term white trash" is derogatory. But there is nothing at all derogatory about this latest piece from Quarantine, a company that specialises in weaving fictions from the real stuff and stories of people's everyday lives. everywhere Quarantine delves, it uncovers the extraordinary in the seemingly ordinary and banal. Using non-professional actors recruited through workshops in the Manchester area, and drawing strongly on their lives and stories, White Trash offers neither judgments nor sociology - and not a great deal of narrative either. However, in 90 minutes of stop-start energy, it gives a sideways glimpse into the hearts and souls of these youngsters, their complicated interlocking relationships, their ways of survival." the guardian

Notes:
the writer was Kevin Fegan (although it was A devised peice springing directly from the lives of the cast.), the director And conceptuliser was Richard Gregory, the designer was Simon Banham, And it was coreographed by Christine Devany.
