Tom Cone began his career in 1974 with the Playwrights Theatre Centre in Vancouver with their production of his play the Organizer, and CBC Radio Drama s production of his play there. Cone was a playwright in residence at the Stratford Festival for two years where he premiered his play Stargazing and his adaptation of Goldoni s Servant of Two Masters, which has been continuously produced since 1980. He adapted Herringbone into a musical in 1981, music by Skip Kennon and lyrics by Ellen Fitzhugh, and it premiered in Chicago followed by productions in New York at Playwrights Horizons, London at the King s Head Theatre, Philadelphia, Edinburgh Festival, Vancouver, Hartford Stage starring Joel Grey, and many cities throughout North America. It recently toured Williamstown Theater Festival, McCarter Theatre (Princeton, NJ) and the LaJolla Playhouse (Ca) in a production starring Tony award winner BD Wong and directed by Tony award winner Roger Rees. In 1992 his adaptation of Moliere s the Miser premiered at the Vancouver Playhouse and subsequently aired on CBC s Arts National and opened the restored Monument Theatre in Montreal for the National Theatre School. His other plays include True Mummy, Cubistique, Whisper to Mendelsohn, Beautiful Tigers and Shotglass. these works have been seen throughout Canada, the United States, england, and Australia. His most recent play, Donald and Lenore, was produced by Felix Culpa Theatre and Chutzpah Festival in Vancouver, March 2010. He wrote the libretto for the architect, composed by David MacIntyre and produced by Vancouver Opera in June 1994. In June 1997, Cone wrote the libretto for the opera the Gang (music by Peter Hannan), which premiered in Vancouver, produced by Vancouver New Music. In January 1999, the Gang was produced at the du Maurier Theatre in Toronto by autumn Leaf Productions and broadcast nationally on CBC s Two New Hours. In 2000, the opera Game Misconduct, written with the composer Leslie Uyeda, premiered at Festival Vancouver. Tom Cone is a founder and former co-producer of CaBINeT: Interdisciplinary Collaborations. In January 2007 CaBINeT presented an evening of newly-commissioned works by composer/musician George Lewis (Macarthur award recipient) and video artist Kate Craig, composer Stefan Smulovitz and visual artists Hadley+Maxwell, as well as the Canadian premiere of Edgard Varese and Bill Viola's music/video work Desert. Cone has also co-produced a series of house concerts titled Song Room, where composers and writers are brought together to build song literature. there have been 54 premieres, of which 11 were featured on the CD in the Capilano Review issue, Collaboration. In May 2011Tom Cone will co-produce with Karen Matthews the Opera Project, which will premiere four ten-minute operas by four different teams of composers and librettists. Cone taught playwriting workshops at the Playwrights Theatre Centre in Vancouver in the 1980s, and was guest lecturer at the National Theatre School in Montreal in 1996. He taught Collaboration and Constructivism with Jeremy Todd at the Emily Carr University for art and Design in the fall 2007 term. In the winter of 2007 he was writer-in-residence at Capilano University, where he created the Five-Minute Play Project as a collaboration between the Creative Writing and Theatre departments, which has been offered every spring term since. Tom Cone has been the recipient of the Canada Council award, the Nea, and the Drama League award for Playwrighting in New York. He recently contributed to the publication Facing History for arsenal Pulp Press/ Presentation House. In 2000 he curated a show for the Vancouver art Gallery based on their 1990 s acquisitions. Herringbone

Herringbone
When they do not get the inheritance they had anticipated George's parents decide to make money he must go into show business. George is sent to vaudevillian Nathan Moseley to be trained. Nathan is one half of a comedy double act Chicken and Frog with his friend Lou. Lou falls or is pushed to his death. Frog's spirit takes over George's body and suddenly he can act, sing and dance. But when Chicken has his neck wrung by George - is it George's doing or Frog's?
