NAT COLLEY was born and grew up in Sacramento. He received bachelors and law degrees from the University of Michigan. His first job in the theatre was as assistant director to Luther James on August Wilsons Joe Turners Come and Gone at the Sacramento Theater Co. Since then, Colley has written The Shoebox, presented at the Lorraine Hansberry Theater, San Francisco, in 1993; A Sensitive Man, presented at Moving Arts, Los Angeles, in 1996; and The Dangerous Minute, presented at Moving Arts in 1997. He wrote Seat Selection, which he then directed at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art in conjunction with Cornerstone Theater in 1997; earlier, he had directed his play, The Abortion of Mary Williams, at the Ivar Theater in Los Angeles. Colley also directed the film version of that play, which was selected for inclusion in the Showtime networks black filmmakers showcase and broadcast in 1998.
