Myla was a teaching artist mother with a MFA in Dramatic Writing from New York University/Tisch School of the Arts. She was a playwright, screenwriter, contributing editor, scriptwriter, librettist, film festival curator, producer, dramaturge and professor of dramatic writing. Myla was an alum of the BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop. Her libretto, Scandalous People: A Sizzling Jazzical debuted at the Minetta Lane Theatre as a part of the FringeNYC Festival. Her children's musical, Griot Trio: Tellers of African Folktales, has been produced by SummerStage/CityPark Kids, the Cherry Lane Alternative LOOKSEE Series; the Immigrants' Theatre Project American Dreams Series; the New York Family Festival at the Theatre of the Riverside Church; the Aaron Davis Hall International Series; and The American Museum of Natural History Educational Series. Collaborating with Linda Twine, she adapted A Band of Angels, a book about the Fisk Jubilee Singers, into a TYA musical for Making Books Sing and was commissioned to write Louis Armstrong: Jazz Ambassador! She was a professor at Long Island University and New York University-Tisch School of the Arts and the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, Myla taught Media Aesthetics, Writing For Visual Media, Screenplay I, Screenwriting I, Page-to-Screen, Craft, Grad Story, Grad Screenplay, Playwriting, Playwriting II, Playwriting Practicum and Professional Colloquium. She also taught workshops for the Screenwriters' Guild of Nigeria in Lagos and the Nigerian Film Institute in Jos.

Caged Bird: A Swamperetta

Synopsis:
Caged Bird is a swampretta set in the 1940s in Louisiana Bayou country. The story revolves around two women. Honey Glapion, a young girl trapped in a small duplicitous backwoods town and Hope Caldwell, a middle-aged courtesean who returns to her swamp roots made good. The town accepts Hope with open arms until they realize shes made her money on her back. The respectable women shun her immediately. The men beat an even faster path to her door, to see whats worth paying for. But Honey wants Hope to take her under wing and teach her how to land the towns most eligible bachelor, Solomon Soule. While Solomon is away working the docks in New Orleans, Hope prepares Honey for his return. But best laid plans go awry, when Solomon and Hope fall in love at first sight and a heartbroken Honey vows to get even.
