Born in country South Australia to Greek migrants, Elena was expected to become something respectable, like an accountant. To their horror, she became an actor instead - after studying Drama at school, university and then NIDA. She has relished her professional acting career now spanning over 20 years, most recently playing Olive in State Theatre Company of South Australia's production of Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, directed by Geordie Brookman. She has also worked for Sydney Theatre Company, Bell Shakespeare, Malthouse Theatre, Q Theatre, Brink Productions, Flying Penguin, Windmill, Company B Belvoir and the NIDA Professional Company. She recently won a Sydney Theatre Award for her work in Lachlan Philpott'sTruck Stop. Elena is proud to have been involved as an actor on the workshop developments of award winning Australian plays by Finegan Krukemeyer, Andrew Bovell, Lachlan Philpott and Phillip Kavanagh. She enjoyed this process immensely and finally found the chutzpah to take up writing herself. The Good Son is her first play. The debut production, directed by Corey McMahon, enjoyed a sell-out season in Adelaide in 2015. Her second play Helen Back was shortlisted for the Jill Blewett playwright's award category of the 2012 Adelaide Festival Awards for Literature. In 2014 she directed her own adaptation of Euripides' The Bacchae at the Adelaide College of the Arts. She is thrilled to have received her first commission this year. She is passionate about telling stories that are not necessarily mainstream and is determined to continue to make a positive difference in the Australian arts industry, which she adores
