Literary Agent:    n/a

Allan began writing in 2004 and has written eleven plays, all with gay characters and themes. Six of these plays have been produced, in twenty-one productions from coast to coast and, in 2013 at the University of Guam. He is especially honored that his profoundly moving and graceful 9/11 plays, "Five Minutes" and ". . .last and always", has each been twice produced in the city for which they are, obviously, so very difficult. And he is delighted that in 2011 two of his one act plays, "Click" and "A Midsummer Night's Conversation", were produced at the Kalita Humphreys Theatre in Dallas. . .the first professional theatre he attended, as a high school student.

Dare

Synopsis:
In his 82nd year, Jack, a resident of a nursing home in the Central Valley of California, has decided to end his life by refusing food and starving himself to death. His young and new "consulting gerontologist", Josh, has been summoned by the home's administrator to try to discover the reason for Jack's decision. Both Jack and Josh are gay, though from very different generations. In their afternoon of conversation and in four flashbacks from Jack's past (San Francisco, '73; Fire Island, '78; New York City, '87; and New York City, '90), we come to understand the "play" in which Jack, the theatrical veteran, feels the "dramatic arc of his character" is now complete. This play confronts the history of gay liberation, issues of aging in the gay community, the impact of AIDS, enduring homophobia, the dialogue between advocates of "gay assimilation" and "gay exceptionalism". . .and the role of drag queens.

Dex & Abby

Synopsis:
Though Sean and Jim, a gay couple, are enjoying the beginning of a relationship and their new home, their dogs, Abby and Dex, are not. they do not get along at all, in fact. Abby, Sean's young dog, must learn to deal with Dex, who has been Jim's companion and protector for thirteen years. Over a period of two years we watch the development of these two relationships and see how the dogs both resolve their conflicts and aid Sean and Jim in the resolution of theirs. Fortunately, all four characters are able to communicate in lovely and very unexpected ways: Sean and Jim to their respective dogs and the dogs to each other directly; and each dog to their respective human companions in "dreams". the strength of the communication helps the four deal, in a sweet moving and graceful manner with the loss of the much older dog, who hands off to Sean his life-long duty as Jim's "protector" and companion. A funny, sweet and very moving tribute to the importance of the companions with whom we share our lives the dogs are, of course, played by human actors.
