An opera singer in a previous life, Natalie Wilson first stepped behind the pen when she wrote the book for Nat & Kat's Adventures with the Time-Traveling Piano, a family cabaret show in which she also starred off-off Broadway in May of 2009. She then began exploring the radical realm of writing plays for other people to perform, under the tutelage of Julie McKee, Stuart Spencer, Sheri Wilner, Winter Miller, and Josh Hecht. Her first full-length play, BREAKING PAIRS, premiered in November 2010 at the Dramatists Guild in a staged reading directed by Steven Yuhasz. She has had several short plays produced as part of John Chatterton's Short Play Lab (A ONE AND A TWO, SPIRIT DUST), was a finalist in Left Hip Productions' 2010 48-hour play festival ('s Mothering), and has twice been selected to write for ESPA-Primary Stages' "Detention" series. Her current project, The Sweethearts of Swing, is a full-length play with music inspired by the true stories of white women who passed as black in order to play in all-girl swing bands during WWII. Originally hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, Natalie has worked as a performer with opera and theater companies on both coasts, including One World Symphony, the Little Opera Theater of New York, Opera San Jose, Berkeley Opera, San Diego Comic Opera, and the Lamb's Players Theater. This summer she read the roles of Cornelia in The Carpetbagger's Children and Sarah in Bhutan as part of the Foote Family Reading Series at Primary Stages. Natalie claimed her place in the blogosphere in January 2010 when she assigned herself a project: to "give birth" to a full-length play in nine months. On her blog, she expounds upon the joys and frustrations not only of trying to complete her plays, but also of trying to survive - and thrive -- as an artist in New York City.
