2,000 Feet Away

2,000 Feet Away
In November of 2005 the Iowa State Legislature passed a bill making it a criminal offence for a registered sex offender to live within 2,000 feet of a school. Many towns in Iowa and nearby states have added to the list of prohibited places: day-care centres, parks, shopping malls, public swimming pools, bus stops and libraries. Due to the systematic eviction of sex offenders from their homes, of known sex offenders in Iowa have now disappeared from the public record. In a brave and compelling story, writer Anthony Weigh asks us to examine how seemingly reasonable legislation can have awful consequences, as one small town deputy sheriff struggles to enforce the law and protect the innocent from the fear, revulsion, violence and rage surrounding child sex offenders. Like A Fishbone

Like A Fishbone
A remote valley. An unspeakable crime. A prominent architect is commissioned to design a memorial to the victims. On the eve of the presentation of the memorial to the public, a blind woman comes out of the rain and into the architects studio. She is the mother of one of the victims and she demands to be heard. Over the next hour the two women do battle over what it means to memorialise the dead, what it means to be a mother and what it means to believe. Like A Fishbone is both a psychological thriller and a haunting puzzle about faith, compassion and the danger of telling the truth.

Middle Man, The

Middle Man, The
the King James Version of the Bible (KJV) is a foundation stone of the English language. the KJV was composed as a collective project and written to be spoken. Sixty-Six Books has been created, in the spirit of the original, in the same way. Pulpit to print; stage to page; mediated through many forms oral and written, the KJV has, since its inception, been a fundamental part of written and spoken English. This is a work that has travelled to every continent of the globe. It has been shared as a melodic instrument of inspiration, illumination and mutual understanding; and it has also been wielded as a tool of colonial oppression. Sixty-Six Books is a fresh interpretation of the KJV for the new millennium, celebrating and challenging the traditions and achievements of this great work on the occasion of its 400th anniversary. the curators of this project have gathered together a formidable and inspiring line-up of the best established and emerging writing talent to produce a new version of the KJV for thetwenty-first century. Each writer has created anew a book of the KJV - as prose, poetry, Drama, performance, song, or ground-breaking digital form. Each writer has spoken back to the KJV with untrammeled inventiveness of the imagination. the voices of Sixty-Six Books, drawn from across five continents, innovate, transmute, transpose, reinvent and talk back to four hundredyears of history. All the works that make up Sixty-Six Books are written to be spoken. Culminating in major performance events at the Bush theatre and Westminster Abbey in 2011 in London, Sixty-Six Books is a contribution towards the mutual curiosity, tolerance, and force of collective enterprise and shared humanity that characterizes the international and ancient Arts of writing and spoken performance

Welcome Home, Captain Fox!

Welcome Home, Captain Fox!
Its the legendary hot summer of 1959 and while the Cold War rages and America tunes into I Love Lucy!, Captain Jack Fox, believed missing in action in the fields of France 15 years before, is about to be reunited with his family in The Hamptons. But is this really Jack Fox? And if it isnt, who is this man? And why are there 22 other families so intent on claiming him as their own?

Notes:
Original Playwright - Jean Anouilh'ss hit 1937 play, Le Voyageur Sans Bagage, Welcome Home, Captain Fox! is a sparkling comedy of identity, lost and found. Playwright Anthony Weigh updates Anouilh's riotous family drama to a long, hot Summer, on the very tip of Long Island, in the America of the late 1950's.
