Synopsis: | In a French speaking village in Nova Scotia two children are born on the same day Evangeline and Martin. They grow up and when they reach their coming of age Martin proposes and is accepted. On the day before the betrothal party the British troops arrive burn down the village and take away the inhabitants. The villagers are randomly distributed as slaves throughout the United States. Martin and Evangeline are separated and promise to find each other and stay true. Years pass - Evangeline's friends tell her she must give up hoping to find Martin and get on with her life. But she takes no notice and waits for Martin as the years roll on. There is an outbreak of fever along the coast and Evangeline and the priest go to minister to the sick. A dying fur trapper is brought in. It is Martin - he dies in her arms telling her that he remained true to her all those lost years. | |||||
