Promise Of the Raining Aged

Synopsis:
Promise of the Raining Aged: The play tells the story of a middle-class black youth torn between the demands and needs of his white buddies, his father, the white girl he grows to love, and an old black man who attempts to help him. It treats in a sensitive and human way the growth of a heterosexual relationship between a black and a white without overt racial overtones or sexual sensationalism. The story is told through the eyes of an aging black who has found a kind of peace that by 1960 seemed no longer possible for a much newer generation, whether it was white or black. It concentrates on the development and collapse of relationships among young people for whom the future is uncertain and the past unclear. Their struggle is a positive affirmation of human values and the dreams of youth

A new graduate student enters the picture, creating a triangle of conflict leading to an explosive rift among all three parties; but the experience enables Baratnal to gain inner peace and an objective perspective on his life.
