Heather Nimmo has written more than twenty plays for stage and radio, working with Australias leading actors, directors and designers. After many years in Western Australia, where she won a number of literary prizes, she returned to Adelaide in 2003. She teaches part-time in the Drama Department at Flinders University.

Hope, The

Synopsis:
It is 1987. Bet and Michael are newly married and their hearts are set on the Australian dream - to own their own home. Like generations before them they have crossed the Nullarbor to seek their fortune. 'The Hope' is a corrugated-iron mining town where few fortunes are made and few marriages survive. Bet and Michael are innocents among The Hope's hardy inhabitants: Mrs G - fourth generation goldfields; Charlie - the topless barmaid; Boss - the enigmatic boss man, and the eerie presence of generations of previous occupants.

Synopsis:
Steven is in his thirties. He was born with Downs Syndrome. He lives with his ageing mum, loves to watch the cricket on TV and is impressed that commentator Richie Benaud always knows all the answers. In times of stress or confusion, he says, 'I'll write to Richie Benaud', certain that Richie will provide a calm and fair judgement. But there are problems that other members of Steven's family must try to solve for themselves.
