Gabrielle Macdonald's works for theatre include 'A Short Piece Concerning Bertolt Brecht' (Playbox@Malthouse, Theatre in the Raw, 1995) and 'like a metaphor' (Playbox@Malthouse, Inside 2000, 2000). In 2003 her play 'The Colour of Glass' received a two-day workshop at Playbox@Malthouse Theatre in the Raw. Following this, Gabrielle was awarded an Australia Council Literature Board grant to complete a second draft. 'The Colour of Glass' was short-listed for the 2006 Patrick White Playwright's Award. In 2007 'The Colour of Glass' will receive a ten-day development through Arts Victoria and Full Tilt. In 2006 Gabrielle's play 'Debt' was produced at La Mama theatre. 'Debt' was awarded the 2006 Greenroom Award for best new Australian Play (Co-winner with 'Pitch').

Debt

Synopsis:
Craig's a man with a plan. Can't afford a taxi, why not buy a car? In a tricky spot, why not blackmail your girlfriend's grandmother? And Nan's boyfriend, the used car salesman? And his half brother too? In debt? No problem. Things can always get worse. Meet the brother, the girlfriend and her grandmother. Where's Craig? Well, there's a few people who'd like to know. Debt. Three people, one problem, no clue.
