Avenue X

Avenue X
Set in a racially divided Brooklyn neighborhood in 1963, avenue X captures both the nostalgic harmonies of an innocent age and the rumblings of future discord. as in New York and other American cities in the late 1950s and early 1960s, teenagers gather on stoops and sidewalks to pass the time singing together-the best groups win contests and dream of record deals. In avenue X, the Italian American and African American groups wouldn't think of singing together-until Pasquale and Milton find that their shared love for the music transcends the escalating racial tension.

Explicit Vows

Synopsis:
explicit Vows takes a wry yet affectionate look at marriage, dating, and romance from a distinctly male perspective as it traces the story of one man and the lifetime of roadblocks he encountered on his way to the altar. the play opens with a middle-aged, soon-to-be groom in a church, nervously sweating out the final few minutes before his wedding begins. While he waits, the Man reflects on the varied-and often quite funny-experiences he's had with women over the course of his life. Guided at times by the spirit of Noel Coward (whose song 'I'll Follow My Secret Heart' serves as a mantra), the Man's journey takes some unexpected turns: a strange experience with a grossly overweight prostitute; a bad period spent in a mental institution; the accidental meeting of his fiancee Molly; and a fateful trip to Tennesee where he falls in love with a woman who threatens his newfound bliss

Ripe

Synopsis:
Manhood takes on a very different meaning for baby boomers who waited until middle age to marry. Having committed late in life, they got newborn babies and dying parents at the same time. Such is the situation of the protagonist in "RIPe," a new solo show by playwright/actor/journalist John Jiler, which begins with him on the phone to a pharmacist, ordering three boxes of diapers at the same time: two for his aging parents, and one for his new-born son. Throughout the play, Jiler plays a dozen unforgettable New York characters swirling around his dying, Runyonesque father. they include Irish nurses, pharmacists, psychiatrists, funeral home personnel, and even the ghost of David Niven. they also include his own family: his Father and grandfather, his mother and his baby son.
