Laura Jacqmin is a Chicago-based playwright, originally from Cleveland. She's the winner of the Wasserstein Prize, two NEA Art Works Grants, the ATHE-Kennedy Center David Mark Cohen Playwriting Award, two MacDowell Fellowships, an Illinois Arts Council Individual Artist Grant, and was a finalist for the Heideman Award, the Laurents/Hatcher Prize, the BBC International Playwriting Competition, and the Princess Grace Award. Her play Dental Society Midwinter Meeting was named one of New City Stage's Top Five Plays of 2010, as well as TimeOut Chicago's Honorable Mentions: Best Theater of 2010. Television: "Lucky 7" (ABC, 2013); "Grace and Frankie" (Netflix, 2014). She received her BA from Yale University, and earned an MFA in Playwriting from Ohio University. Plays include January Joiner (Long Wharf Theatre), Ski Dubai (Steppenwolf Theatre), Look, We Are Breathing (Sundance Theater Lab), Two Lakes, Two Rivers (O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, Royal Court Theatre's International Residency), Dental Society Midwinter Meeting (Chicago Dramatists/At Play, remounted 16th Street Theater and Theater on the Lake), Do-Gooder (16th Street Theater), Ghost Bike (Buzz22 Chicago) and more. Her short play Hero Dad premiered in the 2012 Humana Festival of New Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville. Additionally, she's had work developed and produced by Atlantic Theater, Roundabout Underground, Vineyard Theatre, LCT3, Cape Cod Theatre Project, Northlight Theatre, Ars Nova, Second Stage, Lark Theatre, Icicle Creek Theater Festival, NNPN, and more. Jacqmin has taught playwriting at Ohio University, Carthage College, was the recipient of a Fellowship in Applied Arts at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Center on Age and Community, and was the 2012 Faith Broome playwright-in-residence at University of Oklahoma. She has been commissioned by South Coast Rep, Goodman Theatre, DePaul University, Arden Theater Company, InterAct Theatre, Victory Gardens Theater/NNPN, and Ensemble Studio Theatre/Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Science & Technology Project. Her plays are published by Playscripts, Inc. and Smith & Kraus.

Synopsis:
after their mother's disappearance, Marchen and her nine sisters grow up in a swamp with only a trunk full of old stories to teach them about the world. But under the influence of a cryptic witch, Jenny Greenteeth, Marchen begins to wonder if her destiny lies beyond her books and her isolated life with her siblings. Is she willing to leave her life behind -- even betray her sisters -- to find her own freedom? When the littlest sister disappears, it's up to Marchen to uncover the truth. Inspired by classic fairy tales and folklore, 10 Virgins deftly explores what it means to find our way in the world and what consequences come from the paths we choose.

Third, The

Synopsis:
We just want a third. And that third is going to be there for us. Not an equal: just there for us. For whatever we want him to do. The world premiere of A Third by award-winning Chicago playwright Laura Jacqmin runs at the Finborough Theatre for twelve performances, on Sunday and Monday evenings and Tuesday matinees. Young marrieds Paul and Allison have everything going for them. They have money, they're in love, and their sex life is great. But could it be better? Instead of being monogamous, why not try "monogam-ish"? What would happen if they invited "a third" into their bedroom and into their lives? Allison and Paul convince themselves that they are being just about as liberal and adventurous as modern society seems to want. But as they transition from threesomes to couple-swapping, they discover the fragility of their own liberal attitudes. Just how flexible can one person's sexuality truly be? And how far can "monogam-ish" go before it's simply cheating? Can a couple go back to simply being a couple? A funny, provocative and unflinching look at modern attitudes to sex, relationships and polyamorous love.
