Shawn B. Hirabayashi has been playwriting in New York City since 1992. He has had productions and readings at various Theatres (e.g., Vital Theatre Company, Ripple Productions, Circle Rep Lab, Sundog Theatre). He's won a couple of awards (Berrilla Kerr and OOBR), had a residency (New River Dramatists), and been commissioned (Starfish Theatreworks and Reckless Theatre Company). He earned an MFA in playwriting from the Yale School of Drama and is a member of the Dramatists Guild.

Funny

Synopsis:
the first act occurs in the New York apartment of alice and Delia. alice has ordered a hit on her life-long friend and roommate. as the curtain rises, alice is in the process of changing her mind about the hit. Before she does so, Delia's ex-boyfriend, Giovanni, shows up. alice is trying to get Delia and Giovanni to leave when the hit man, ex, arrives. ex normally doesn't change plans once they are set in motion, but he has recently been infected by the voice of a girl named Ruthie who nags him until he does what she wants. One thing leads to another and by the second act they find themselves in a jungle in Papua New Guinea, where the consequences of alice's impulsiveness will out.

Wheat And the Moon, The

Synopsis:
Drawing from the African myth "the Wheat and the Moon", the Greek myth "Orpheus and euridice", and Oscar Wilde's "the Rose and the Nightingale", the play integrates myths familiar and obscure to create the story of Hafizi and Nitida, lovers separated by death who are willing to sacrifice the order of the universe to be together one last time. With Orpheus also pursuing Nitida and the Gods Bes, Baba Yaga, and apollo encouraging the two lovers to move on for the sake of the world.
