A man and woman are looking at exhibits in the Egyptian wing of a museum when the statue of Amneris comes to life and transports them back to ancient Egypt. Radames has captured a number of Nubian women and he falls for Aida. Radames gives Aida to his betrothed Princess Amneris. He hears that the Pharaoh is ill - he will be the next Pharaoh - but he does not know his father is poisoning the Pharaoh to speed up his son's ascension to the throne. Radames and Aida declare their love for each other but then Aida hears that the Egyptians have captured her father King Amonasro
