Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon

Synopsis:
A writer with a limited understanding of Japanese culture goes on a foolhardy journey to Kyoto to study Japanese Noh theatre. During his numerous adventures, misadventures, and cultural faux pas, he meets a woman who experienced the Tsunami disaster of 2011. Through this contact with contemporary Japan he learns something essential to the ancient art of Noh. Flower, bird, wind, moon is a Japanese saying which means "observe nature and discover yourself". Sunburst Finish

Sunburst Finish
Note to self - You are dying' .as a young man's depression turns to despair, suicide seems the only way out - the only way to take control . . . In spite of the bleakness of its subject, Sunburst Finish is filled with strong and vibrant voices, a rich mosaic of music, wit, warmth, insight, feeling, and a remarkable lack of sentimentality. the central character's struggle to come to terms with himself and the world around him is one that all young (and not so young) people will relate strongly to.

Wind In the Pines (Matsukaze) By Kanami

Synopsis:
Matsukaze means "Wind in the Pines", and is the title of a Noh play written by Kanami and revised by the great Noh master, Zeami. along with "the Well Stone" it is considered one of the greatest plays in the tradition. the story revolves around two women who die of grief at the loss of their lover. as with many Noh plays, the story is told in retrospect and the characters themselves are ghosts who, even after death, pine endlessly for their lost lover. all Noh plays are highly stylised and feature music, mask, singing, chanting and dance; through which they slow the flow of time and so allow an intense engagement with the sensibilities of the suffering characters. these characters are ghostly apparition and therefore 'exist' outside time. although Noh plays can run to several hours in performance this Classic Cut will bring the same heightened aesthetic to bear in a 45minute version!
