Honk If You'Re On Prozac

Synopsis:
Life and art. Fear and loathing. Sensibilities and sex. Class warfare, and classless acts. Life is extremely difficult in these days and times. Like nothing ever before. Whatever are we to do? The stress, the pressure to succeed, the encroaching environment of violence. The fear, the hate is palpable. Let's get away from it all. Save our children and our future. Yeah, that's it. Let's get away from it all. The short pieces in this piece are twofold. Actually the play is bipartite - the short pieces are self-contained and they are integrated into the larger piece. They are two different realities. They can be done either way. It is up to the director. Or producer, whoever makes the decisions in the theater concerned. This piece consists of two acts, ten one act pieces, five in each act, (AMERICAN GOLD,CRUEL AND UNUSUAL, SUITABLE SUITS, FIFTH OF AMENDMENT, I WANT TO BE ME, OBVERSE IMAGES, WATER CLOSET, FURRY CURRY, WOULD YOU LIKE US TO POLISH YOUR CAR, JAYBIRDS) under the umbrella of PROZAC. What follows are summaries of each. ACT I. AMERICAN GOLD: Forty-five minutes Freed spills his scam to his, soon to be ex, cellmate of over five years. He is going to buy a used car with a check on a Friday after three o'clock, then transfer the car for cash some few hours later. Two used car dealers catch on to his scheme and have him arrested. The scam is a success. CRUEL AND UNUSUAL: Twenty minutes. George Roberts is on trial for not reporting a drug episode at his place of employment. He is an innocent dupe, but the judge's hands are tied and Roberts is sentenced - to church. SUITABLE SUITS: An indoctrination session for future salesmen at a 'business' clothing store. Ten minutes. FIFTH OF AMENDMENT: Ten minutes. How does a citizen protect himself from the power of the state protecting the rights of an accused murderer? Does he? Can he? Should he be able to so do? Is he obliged to do so? I WANT TO BE ME: Fifteen-twenty minutes. Two men sitting around discussing women. ACT II. OBVERSE IMAGES: Forty-forty-five minutes. Close to death, impoverished by his illness, a young man turns for help to a viatical service. WATER CLOSET: Ninety minutes. A man comes into another's life to change out a water heater. The repairman tells the story of his life to a total stranger. Is he to be believed? FURRY CURRY Fifteen minutes. A man tells about his adventures with a stray dog and the woman with whom he shares meals, rooms and a life. WOULD YOU LIKE US TO POLISH YOUR CAR, SIR?: Ten-fifteen minutes. Crime is rampant in the nice, manicured neighborhood of well-to-dos, and some of the neighbors get together and discuss what to do about it. JAYBIRDS: Ten minutes. Two newly met lovers, perhaps in a park, make love. THE CHARM OF BEING HUMAN Two hours. Nine men, five women. Sexual tensions in a bar. THE SEXUAL AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A SINGLE, HONEST MAN One man, one act, somewhat over an hour and a half. This is not a woman basher, not a man basher, it is not a piece of eroticism, not pruriency, it is nothing but a man telling rather humorous stories connected with his attempts to navigate the sexual morass known to most single people, male and female. No one gets bashed, except the player doing it to himself. I enjoyed the hell out of the damned thing. Probably the most apt line is right at the beginning, where he notes many of his pals brag they get more ass than a toilet seat, alas, he rues, he cannot keep up with a urinal. SHADOW ON THE LAND© Two acts, two hours. Several friends gather to discuss the, their, bleak futures in the new world of educated blue collar workers. SLOTH Three men one woman. Ten minutes. Man is cleaning his windows, neighbors remark on this. The others admire, rather declare admiration for him, but speak only of the people they have coming over to do for them.

Love, Buster

Two acts, two hours. A woman recalls her past, growing up in the early twentieth century, through the Depression, values inherited, those foisted upon her by reality, the mindset developed as a result of having lived through the most severe depression this country has thus far experienced. Peasants In Season

Synopsis:
Forty-five minutes to an hour Two women at various stages of their lives. The same women play the three stages, it is a one act play. The whole thing is rather ephemeral, little to no set, the staging has more to do with costuming than scenery. Often faulty memory says this thing was performed in England somewhere, but I cannot for the life of me recall where or when, so let it be said it has not been done in England. Not a feminist's delight.

Railroad Crew, The

Synopsis:
Two acts, somewhat under two hours. A Kafkaesque piece with no humor to the deadly serious, but to real people, funny as hell. One of those pieces with which both points of view can identify, neither noting the other's. Music with the piece.

Us, Them And Y'All

Synopsis:
US THEM AND Y'ALL Two acts, about two hours. Perhaps twenty characters, many minor, much doubling. It is five plays in three acts. Night one the piece will be produced with an all white cast. Night two, all black, three will be integrated, four the colors of the roles reverse, and finally, the sexes flip. There is no set. The audience, however, would ideally be ensconced in a prison of bars. A man innocently repairing the roof on his home, is approached surreptitiously by a city code inspector. The home owner is not happy at this turn of events, why should he have to pay for a building permit to repair his own roof, but it costs little, and will solve the annoyance. Unfortunately for him, the whole thing, he, becomes enmeshed in bureaucratic hogwash and careens out of control. A simple building permit, simply and easily obtained by thousands of ordinary people every day, turns into a felony of ever increasing proportions and seriousness.
