Compass

Compass
The teacher is missing, there isn't enough food, it's getting dark and no one mentioned that the toilets out here are nothing but holes in the ground. For a small group of students, it seems their grade seven camp couldn't get much worse, that is until a stranger appears. Compass is a comedy with a sting in its tail, which asks how far we'll go to hold on to what we think we deserve. If we are barely managing to take care of ourselves, how do we treat an outsider? Is our moral compass set in stone, or can we get lost?

Fight Or Flight

Fight Or Flight
Triptych A Trilogy of New Works explores the world of pressure and success. From our youngest moments to our dying day we all encounter pressure in our lives. Pressure to survive, to be strong, to win, to make the right decisions, to forge the right path, to be successful but what does being successful even mean? With mental health becoming an increasingly prominent issue for young people, Canberra Youth Theatre has teamed up with three of contemporary theatres most dynamic writers to explore these questions in ecclectic ways.

Sprout

Sprout
Sprout is a play set in an Australia of the future, where everything has dried up, run out, or fled. In this world, human beings live in skeleton cities, or out in the wild, with only the barest of necessities for survival. One thing unites these fragmented souls: a self-appointed prophet on the radio, the Weatherman, who shares classic poetry with his listeners - his way of making their fear and desolation more bearable, through the beauty of language. And in this world full of endings, four people start new beginnings. Curiosity, romance and new life continue to sprout. Sprout suggests the inevitability of love and growth in environments that seem completely inhospitable; that no matter how hopeless things might seem, there is always growth and renewal within the cycles of the earth and our own bodies.
