Synopsis:
story of the depths of deceit that an American scholar will go to secure the private letters of a famous poet. Set in Venice in the 1880s, the scholar enlists the help of a dowdy, middle-aged spinster in obtaining the love letters written to her shriveled-up aunt long ago. The scholar wants the papers; the niece wants him; the aunt wants his money. This odd triangle builds to a surprising and riveting denouement.
