Mary Jett Parsley Wrenn grew up in Greenville, North Carolina. She attended college at Duke University where her first five plays were produced, and received her M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing from New York University. She has been the recipient of a Playwrights Fellowship from the North Carolina Arts Council and a grant from the Pilgrim Project. Productions of Jetts work include: Right Side Wrong, First Born, Locked Doors and Lightning Bugs, and Tar River Love Story. Locked Doors and Lightning Bugs received the Southeastern Theatre Conferences Charles M. Getchell Award and was a winner of the Charlotte Repertory Theatres New Plays in America Festival. In 1993 the play was part of the ONeill National Playwrights Conference. Several scenes and monologues written by Jett were published in Scenes and Monologues for Young Actors, and her play Hiss was published in 30 Ten-Minute Plays for 2 Actors from Actors Theatre of Louisville. The Monster Tales has most recently been produced by Mill 6 Collaborative and Wanderlust Theatre Co. She has also written numerous scripts for churches in New York City and Chapel Hill, NC.

Monster Tales, The

Synopsis:
here's nothing interesting about Mimi until a monster appears from under her bed and tells her the stories she weaves in her sleep, revealing her uniqueness, her beauty, and her true bravery.

Notes:
The Monster Tales was written while the playwright was on retreat at Norcroft in Lutsen, Minnesota. An Emerging Artists Grant from the Durham Arts Council allowed for development with actors, culminating in a staged reading on May 21, 1999.
