Synopsis: | Set during the height of the Civil Rights movement, My Sweet Charlie is the story of Charlie Roberts, a black attorney and activist from New York City, who is falsely accused of cold-blooded murder during a demonstration in Alabama. Fleeing his would-be captors, Charlie escapes to a vacant coastal vacation home, where he encounters Marlene Chambers, a white, uneducated, prejudiced, unwed, pregnant teenager, shunned by her father and boyfriend, who sought refuge in the vacant home a few weeks before Charlie arrived. Realizing their survival depends upon their willingness to help each other, their relationship, at first defined by mutual contempt and deeply rooted racial prejudice, slowly evolves into a touching friendship. | |||||
