Synopsis: | 1848 and revolution is in the air in Europe. In the town of Krahwinkel also. The Mayor tries to keep things in check. Ultra a radical journalist arrives in town. The Mayor complains to him that a mob has attacked him and broken his staff of office. Ultra leaves straight away to become leader of the mob. The Mayor decides to neutralise Ultra and offers him the job of town censor. At the Mayor's office Ultra meets and falls in love with the widow Frau von Frankenfey - she is there to try and get the Mayor to make the Prior hand over her husband's will. But the Mayor and the Prior are colluding to cheat her out of her inheritance. Ultra refuses to become the censor and is ordered out of town | |||||
