Maarten Vonder studied sociology and Dutch literature and worked as a professional dramatist in the fringe theatre for 15 years between 1985 and 2000. His plays include drama, comedy, musical theatre, adaptations and translations (notably: Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus). His play Patrol to Potocari about the fall of Srebrenica (1995) acquired nationwide attention and was recorded by BBC World Service as "the first play on UN peacekeeping operations ever". An English translation also exists of his No, no, Orestes!, a black comedy type reworking of the Sophocles/Euripides tragedy.

Synopsis: | Semi-documentary on the fall of Srebrenica, seen from three Dutch UN peacekeepers. In satirical style, it relates the storming of the town by Serbian troops, the overhasty flight (the "patrol") back to base and the massacre of Bosnian men.
