A symphonic story about the way people listen to each other and to the world around them, Hold Music takes us on a journey into the musical world of speech and memory, language and thought. Drawing upon live music, video, movement, and text to tell intertwined and parallel stories, the performance begins with the question: Why and how does music make us feel? How do things get stuck in our head?

Synopsis:

This show is part of the Dream Up Festival. This is the official blurb: Inspired by Yasunari Kawabata's "One Arm," One Arm and A Leg is a devised work which combines dance and theater and begins with a set of encounters in which a woman decides to give parts of herself-her arm, her phone number, her leg, her identity-to a stranger, a man. This incites a search for things given, received, and lost. The project deals with themes of cultural translation, personal agency, sexuality, and self-sacrifice through text, movement, and image.

Notes:

Part of In The papers! This is a mini-festival of four new short plays by women writers. NPTC's award-winning Women's Work Project returns with the fruits of this year's LAB. Artistic director Melody Brooks asked new members to take on the theme of In the Papers! This choice takes into account the increasing media frenzy of 24-hour news channels, the blogosphere, and endless Facebook and Twitter updates as well as the recent Arizona "Papers Please" law. Each writer found her own take on this theme-from literal perspectives to more metaphorical explorations of what it means to be "without papers."

Synopsis:

forecasts what a loss of paper might mean to language and our ability to communicate with future generations.
