This is the official blurb: Inspired by Yasunari Kawabata's "One Arm," One Arm and A Leg is a devised work which combines dance and theater and begins with a set of encounters in which a woman decides to give parts of herself-her arm, her phone number, her leg, her identity-to a stranger, a man. This incites a search for things given, received, and lost. The project deals with themes of cultural translation, personal agency, sexuality, and self-sacrifice through text, movement, and image. | |||||

Artistic director Melody Brooks asked new members to take on the theme of In the Papers! This choice takes into account the increasing media frenzy of 24-hour news channels, the blogosphere, and endless Facebook and Twitter updates as well as the recent Arizona "Papers Please" law. Each writer found her own take on this theme-from literal perspectives to more metaphorical explorations of what it means to be "without papers." | |||||
