Synopsis: It reflects on the life and work of Hikoma Ueno (1838-1904), who is known as the father of Japanese photography. The piece is conceived as an East-West story, chronicling how the Japanese learned photography from European travelers and scientists, and taking the audience on a trip from the beginnings of photography to the paths exploring endless possibilities and unwritten stories hidden behind a "frozen" image. The show will feature Japanese costumes, old photographs, folk songs, dance, and puppets, and is performed in English and Japanese (but should be understandable for all audiences). nytheatre.com | ||||
