| Synopsis: | This is a multimedia epic exploring our human compulsion to tempt fate and reach beyond our physical limits. Using the Greek myth of Icarus as an allegory, the piece centers on New York City's symbolic role as cultural and financial capitol in the endless quest for globalism. Writer/performer Samuael Topiary takes the audience on a journey from 16th century Antwerp through 20th century Lower Manhattan, impersonating six imaginary/mythological characters: Pieter Brueghel, Henry Hudson, the Wall Street Minotaur, Amelia Earhart, David Rockefeller, and Icarus. Accompanied by Peter Kerlin's electronic sound score, Icarus blends, sock puppets, spoken word, and original song with live accompaniment by Hudson based musician C. Ryder Cooley, who sings and plays musical saw, ukulele and accordion. - nytheatre.com | |||||
