Chewing the Fat

Synopsis:
Selina invites you to her own version of a midnight feast: somewhere between confessions made over coffee at Weight Watchers and sloppy drunken storytelling with a 3am kebab. She infuses discussion of complex, life-long issues with weight with laughter, popping balloons and a healthy dose of rice pudding to result in something truly vibrant. Sitting somewhere between storytelling, stand-up, live art and theatre, Chewing the Fat is a powerful and extremely open portrayal of how we live with our bodies, both on days when they are beautiful and days when they are a burden.

Dark And Lovely

Synopsis:
Selina Thompson has been exploring afro hair: its politics, its connotations, its history and what it tells us about being Black, British and Female in the UK today. Dark & Lovely is a performance from inside the Tumbleweave; a home for hair built from abandoned weaves and extensions. Using recorded conversation, music and written text Selina explores the complexities of social debate surrounding Black hair, transforming the Tumbleweave, which is admittedly a little bit gross, into something beautiful, which can transcend the weight of all the connotations placed upon it, and reveal just what our hair does, and more importantly, doesnt tell us, about what it is to be Black.

Race Cards 3.0

Synopsis:
Selina Thompson devotes 12 hours to writing questions around race on postcards and sticking them on the wall. As with many of the shows at the festival, it involves an exchange: you read the questions and are invited to supply your own answers. Number 136 is: "Did you watch and enjoy The Help?" Salt

Salt
In 2016, two artists embarked a cargo ship and retraced a route of the Transatlantic Slave Triangle - Europe, Africa, the Caribbean - all the while contemplating the notion of home. Both real and imagined, it was a journey to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, propelled by questions and grief; a journey backwards in order to go forwards, a diaspora. This show is what they brought back.
