Stephen tries to get Grena to go but she creates a scene and stabs herself. He thinks she is dead and that he will be blamed - he hides her body in an ottoman. Matthew the landlord arrives and is suspicious - he has delayed Stephen and he misses Jan. When he gets back to his flat he finds Jan there - they are reconciled but Matthew arrives. He says that a friend of his would like to buy an ottoman and would Stephen sell his. Stephen agrees. Next morning when he is transferring the body Matthew arrives and proceeds to blackmail Stephen.
