Marsali Taylor was born and educated in Midlothian. She studied English and French at Dundee University, then did teacher training at Craiglockhart. She moved to Shetland in 1981, to teach secondary English/French and primary Drama at Aith on the west side. Her plays range from short dramas for very young actors to full-length comedies for large casts. She also writes historical and detective fiction. She is a regular contributor to the monthly magazine Shetland Life, and has been published in New Shetlander, Yachting Monthly and Sailing Today. Hobbies include sailing, Shetland ponies and drama. She is currently employed part-time by the Shetland Islands Council to travel round schools with their dialect 'Play in a box' initiative. She continues to teach at Aith two days a week, and works as a tourist guide for Shetland through the summer season.
