Notes:

novel by Henry James

Synopsis:

Set in England in the 1920s, an impoverished British woman, who gives up her fancy and powerful lifestyle for her journalist boyfriend, befriends a terminally ill American heiress hoping she and her boyfriend will come into access with wealth and power again. Kate Croy and Merton Denver are engaged in a passionate clandestine live affair. Kate is desperately in love with Merton, who has all the qualities of a potentially excellent husband: he's handsome, witty and idealistic - the one asset he lacks is money, which ultimately renders him unsuitable as a mate. By chance Kate befriends a young American heiress, Milly Theale. When Kate discovers that Milly suffers from a mysterious and fatal disease she hatches a plan that can give all three characters something that they all want - but at a price! There are many angles in the play: tales of deception, social hypocrisy, conflict between our hearts desire and conscience... However, in the heart of his gripping story lies an unforgettable love triangle. A night of complexities and irony, moral treachery and more.
