Margie Stokley was born in Boston, lived in Louisiana, was raised in Houston, TX, went to high school in Ridgewood, NJ and then received her BFA from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. She is a member of the Dramatist Guild of America and Actor's Equity Association. New York Theatre Experience published her play ELEPHANT in Plays and Playwrights 2005. Smith and Krauss has published excerpts from ELEPHANT in both their Best Women's Stage Monologues 2005 and Best Men's Stage Monologues of 2005. Applause Books has published excerpts from ELEPHANT in their Best Monologues of the Millennium and DUO! Best Scenes for the Twenty-First Century. Perfect Harmony, a theatrical mockumentary about a championship high school a cappella group has been performed Off Broadway, Regionally, and excerpts published by Smith & Krauss in monologue and scene anthologies. (Note: Was not sole contributor to Perfect Harmony but collaborated with Andrew Grosso, Alec Duffy, and a group of dedicated actors.) WISH YOU WERE HERE, a short film, completed in February 2013, marks her film debut as screenwriter, director, and producer. Hoping to screen at festival near you soon! She was also a founding member of Andhow Theater Company, a company that thrived in New York for over 10 years. As an Actress regionally she's worked at Williamstown Theatre Festival, Mc Carter Theatre in Princeton, NJ and a variety of Regional theaters across the country and in numerous shows Off Broadway in New York City. She played Nina (Lead) in the film HELICOPTER (dir. Ari Gold) which was awarded the Academy Award (Student-Alternative Category), it was accepted to 2000 Sundance Film Festival, and appeared on Sundance Film Channel. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two small boys August and Tennessee, yes, both are named after her favorite playwrights.
