Always & Forever

Synopsis:
ALWAYS & FOREVER follows Alma, a teenage girl from Bell Gardens CA, who is determined to have local corrido-singing heartthrob Adan Sanchez perform at her quinceanera. Alma's journey into womanhood gets complicated when she prays to the Virgin Mary for guidance, but accidentally conjures Jesus Malverde, the narco-saint. the play explores Mexican-American culture, local landmarks, sexuality, and the effects of the war in Iraq. Add a dash of Morrissey, a crash-course in the music of Northwestern Mexico, and a '56 Chevy (driven by a uniquely spiritual vato with a student revolutionary at his side) - and you have the beginning of a ride that is far from ordinary. ALWAYS & FOREVER ". . .has a truly authentic voice, dripping in Los Angeles Latin youth culture" (Angela Garcia Combs, LA Stage Magazine). Music, memory and magic realism collide to reveal a story that is sometimes tragic, sometimes humorous, but always unquestionably Los Angeles.

Rise Up!

Synopsis:
L.A Views V: April 29, 1992 features 8 short plays set in the 1992 Los Angeles Civil Unrest that followed the exoneration of four LAPD officers involved in the Rodney King beating. the unrest sparked widespread looting, assault, and arson. In all, 53 people died, thousands more were injured, and property damage topped 1 billion dollars. Twenty years later, these plays dig through our City's ashes and offer accounts of a time whose impact on Angelenos is still being assessed. From business owners to looters, newscasters to people trapped in the darkness of it all, a diversity of perspectives shed light on the legacy of 4/29/92.
