Originally from Oklahoma City, Vanessa Shealy completed her MFA in Theater Performance from the University of Georgia before landing in New York City, where she currently lives with her husband and partner, Rick Younger, and their son, the Youngest Younger. As a playwright, Vanessa's full length plays include Tea in the Afternoon, American Drum Circle, and One, Two, Whatever you do...Her short plays include A Captive Audience,Cataracts, Let Me Take Care of You and a short solo play, Naked. Productions and readings include such NYC theaters as The Abingdon Theater, The Actors Studio, Emerging Artists Theater, Sola Voce Festival, Estrogrenius, Queens Theater in the Park, South Street Theater, FringeNYC, Project Y and ESPA Drills at 59E59 Theatrers. Vanessa is a member of the Dramatists Guild and an Active member in the Playwright/Director Workshop at The Actors Studio, NYC. Her other writing credits include the original comedic short film, Whistle and Snap, which screened at six film festivals, including the Montreal Black Film Festival and can be seen on Mentat.tv. Her web series, Post Racial Shorts, recently screened at the Roxbury Film Festival. She is a contributing writer and performer for the live sketch comedy shows The Rick Younger Show and The Jumpoff both of which are ongoing in New York City. A television spec script of hers was recently selected for a script review by the Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship. She is currently working with artist Leah Lovise on a new comic book called Couri Vine which will be released in the Fall of 2013. As an actor, Vanessa has appeared onstage in over 30 professional productions, in independent films, on television and in national commercials. She is a winner of the Kennedy Center ACTF Classical Acting Award and a proud member of Actors Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA. Vanessa and her husband Rick founded Younger Child Productions in 2006. In additional to their two FringeNYC productions, Younger Child Productions credits include the feature length documentary film, Souled Out Comedy, winner of the Audience Choice Award at The Friar's Club Comedy Film Festival, NYC, The Rick Younger Show, an ongoing live music and comedy show, and Post Racial Shorts, a comedic series of web sketches about race in American.
