Playwright/lyricist Diane Seymour is the author of the libretto for the Dramatic oratorio, the WAY (music by Michael Valenti), which has been performed in New York City at St. Peter's Church (directed by Joel Paley), in Connecticut at Fairfield University, and at the Marin Opera in San Francisco. Diane won praise from the Philadelphia Inquirer and other publications for VIRTUOSA, her Drama about the life of Clara Schumann, produced by Foundation Theatre. the one-actress, one-pianist play with music was originally commissioned by producer George W. George (MY DINNER WITH ANDRE) and has also been performed in Melbourne, Australia and has had readings in New York City at Steinway Hall and at the Rich Forum at the Stamford Center for the Arts in Connecticut. She has written book and lyrics for the contemporary musical based on American women's poetry, FIRST COMES LOVE (music and additional lyrics by Allison Brewster and Amanda George), which has been performed in New York City at Musical Theater Works and First Stage Festival of New Musicals, at the Stamford Center for the Arts in Connecticut, and at the Aspen Opera House in Colorado. Musical Theater Works has also presented her musical comedy, BLUEFISH BAY (Music: Allison Brewster). Her comedy, MATERNAL INSTINCTS was presented off-off Broadway at Walden Theater and was a semi-finalist at the O'Neill Playwrights Conference. Her one-act musical play, ABRAHAM AND SARAH (music by Barry D), was commissioned by and performed at the Metro Cultural Arts Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. She is currently writing book and lyrics (music by Steven Schoenberg) for LADY ALICE, a new musical tale of timeless love, under the auspices of Collaborative Arts Project in New York. In addition to the theatrical and video script of THROMBOLYTIC Theater: the HEART OF the MATTER for the William Douglas McAdams Agency, she has written special comedy revue material for COMING OF AGE IN America (a Ciba-Geigy Industrial Show), the Crystal Palace Theater in Aspen, Colorado, and the Catskill Mountain Theater. Other projects include video scripts, promotional materials, and speech-writing work for the Hay Group, Mount Sinai Medical Center and the Boston Consulting Group. A member of the Dramatists Guild, ASCAP, and a founding member of the Actors Institute, Ms. Seymour holds a BFA in Theater from Boston University. She has performed as an actress/singer on stage, film, radio, and television and has conducted VOICE POWER, a workshop she created, in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, the U. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Toronto, Dublin, and London. Her articles and short stories have appeared in such theatrical publications as PLAYBILL, BACK STAGE, STAGE DIRECTIONS, DramaTICS, and TEACHING Theatre. Her article, I Could Write a Book: 10 Steps for Creating Your Own Musical was reprinted in the 2001 paperback, STAGE DIRECTIONS GUIDE TO MUSICAL Theater. A mother of two who resides in Manhattan, Ms. Seymour is married to Allen Schoer, Artistic Director of the Actors Institute.
